DiRT 3. The ultimate in off-road as well as track based rally racing, allowing the player to buy cars, customize them as much as they feel fit, and to race them freely online or offline in some wild and creatively fun track locations. This game focuses mainly on the wild, free-form driving style known as Gymkhana racing. This type of racing feature high speed maneuvering, drifting, jumps, and anything that would fall under ''Driving with Style''.

There is a fun Gymkhana practice track to hone your driving skills which features a large parking lot with many obstacles for the player to practice maneuvering through.

Another feature I find pretty cool, is the ability to drive the world-renowned rally and Gymkhana racer, Ken Block's Ford Fiesta.

Gran Turismo 5

Here you have Sony's version of Forza Motorsport, once again it is a similar style track based racing simulator. While both games are somewhat similar, many will say that Gran Turismo is a better game. I find that those who say this have never played Forza. While they are similar in some ways, Gran Turismo does not allow any vehicle customisation option. You can only buy a car, and race it. I could not play a racing game where I could not personalize my car and make it mine. It comes full with some realistic racing features, good graphics, and over 1000 cars, but it just isn't as homey or fun to play as Forza.

GT5 is the first game in the series in which they make it possible to legitimately damage your car, plus the vehicles are seperated into standard and premium classes. The standard cars can't even be damaged much and have many parts that aren't even available to them, the premium are the only good and somewhat realistic ones. It took them 5 games but despite a few flaws, they finally have an almost decent racing game.

The verdict: I personally think that Gran Turismo 5 is a decent game, but I would much rather stick with Forza. It's alot more fun to play, and gives a much more creative feel to racing.

New Need For Speed

I've been hearing quite a bit about a new Need for Speed game coming out. So I decided to see what all the hype was about. This "Need for Speed: The Run" is supposed to be a whole new style of racing game. From what I've heard, it's going to be a mix between Need for Speed's signature sandbox street racing style, mixed with a Grand Theft Auto style "get out of your car" free roam. This is only what I've heard, I'm still looking into the details. I have played the demo and it still retains it's classic racing style, mixed in with a few Forza-like details.

And they brought back what they haven't done in a while, a story line. In the latest NFS game, the main character, Jackson "Jack" Rourke, has gotten in some trouble with an underground criminal organization, and owes either a large sum of money, or his life. He is given information about a 3000 mile long street race known as "The Run", where the prize is 25,000,000$. Enough to pay off his debts. But said organization, as well as the police won't let him win so easily.

In my opinion, Need for Speed was never really good with story lines. They are just not as captivating as that of most games. I loved the NFS series when they released the Underground games, they were the ultimate racing games, simple, creative, and fun to play. But their newer games are just not as fun. The Run is definitely not a game I would buy.

Welcome to my blog, I will be posting about some of the most popular Racing Games available to Consoles. I have a love for racing games since I have a love for cars, and I find that games that have a high accuracy towards racing and motorsport of all kinds are fun to play.
But what kind of racing gamer would I be if I didn't enjoy a little sandbox street racing? Here you will find news on the latest and greatest of the console racing community, for all ages and skill levels.


Personally, my favourite of them all is the Forza Motorsport series, it didn't win Driving Game of the year 2011 for nothing. Are there any other racing games that offer over 500 cars to choose from, plus extra Downloadable car packs every month? Plus the realism in the graphics and driving itself offers a true racing experience.

Everyone has their own opinions on games, and that is what this blog is about.....and because it's a school project :P
